As you drive along Governor’s Loop on campus, your car is brought by the construction site for the new dorms, Knight’s Cove! The Strategic Planning Committee worked closely with Merriman Associates Architects and Student Suites to host meetings, pick the brains of students, and essentially create the final plans. Announced at the beginning of the school year, the project is underway and making swift progress. With Early Bird Housing sign-ups around the corner, and the 2011-2012 Resident Assistants hired, the need for these new dorms will be here in a jiffy!

The new housing will be located across from another residential area, Knight’s Court. Similar in design, the rooms are designed for two students and include a restroom. In addition, the building will have two floors, each with a common area that is complete with comfortable furniture and televisions; a study lounge; vending machines; and a laundry room! The first coed residence on campus, Knight’s Cove will have guys living on one floor and the ladies on another, with sixteen rooms in each hall.

As with any construction project, the majority of the initial progress is “behind the scenes” – digging trenches for wires, installing plumbing, and preparing the ground for the foundation. I am very excited to continue to watch as the new dorms take shape. And get excited…they’re going to be ready for Fall 2011!
